Camp Moore - Camp Styx

Camp Moore (1913-1920s) - A National Guard Training Camp established in 1913 near Pine Ridge in Lexington County, South Carolina. Mobilized into Federal service in 1916. Named Camp Moore for Brigadier General William W. Moore, South Carolina adjutant general. Abandoned in 1920's, it's also known as Camp Styx after the location.

History: Established in 1913 as National Guard training center. President Woodrow Wilson mobilized the National Guard in 1916 to deal with a Mexican border incident and troops from Camp Moore were sent to the border. With World War I declared in 1917 troops from Camp Moore (Camp Styx) were sent overseas and fought at the Hindenberg line.

Current Status: Now the Pine Ridge National Guard Armory is at the site.
